I feel like just saying, "What Mark said!" Thanks for sharing these, Charles. An amazing vocalist, and what range....not only vocally, but genre-ly! Plus, as you mentioned, this singing show puts to shame America's shallow, pointless, self-absorbed feeding frenzy of similar shows!

How refreshing to feature the listeners positioned comfortably on a sofa a few feet away simply enjoying the purity of song, instead of the "holier-than-thou" judges panel situated yards away from the "performing lackeys," with the judges' only goal existing only to promote themselves (looking at you, Simon...and elite multitude over the decades)!

Thanks again, Charles! A Saturday highlight!

Thank you Brad! I'm not sure why the American market had gravitated toward exploitation to the degree it has. Most people I know hate it but there are obviously millions who can't look away. Like a highway pile-up, I suppose! I hope you checked out the Album of Month--I know it's a Riff thing, but I reposted it on Substack as well. I'd love to have you join the call tomorrow! (No pressure, only if you feel like it!)

Thanks! I'll give the call a shot....I start a new house/dog-sitting gig tomorrow, so we'll see how that all shakes out, early on!

Oh. My. God!! This was just absolutely AMAZING!! Best thing I’ve seen on Substack in weeks, and that’s saying something. Just finished watching all three videos and they were simply incredible. Thanks so much for this article!!

Thank you so much, happy you enjoyed that. If you want more on Nightwish and Floor, I did a whole article on them recently for the Album of the Month club. https://zapatosjam.substack.com/p/mark-your-calendar-for-october-1 Thanks for stopping by.

I did read that article and thoroughly enjoyed it. Although I’ve never really listened to Nightwish I was introduced to them in the late 2000s by my young cousin visiting from the UK.

What I loved about this article was the videos - there was such a sense of, for lack of a better term, wholesomeness about the show. Clearly a lot of mutual respect and admiration there and a straight up love of music, ALL music. Was inspiring to see.

That's a big reason I got hooked on the series. There were some real finds, too. Tim Akkerman is also a very versatile musician, and Emma, the youtuber, had never performed in front of a live audience before. She and Henk did a duet that was just gorgeous. Thanks again!
