Two women songwriters -- going straight on my women in rock spreadsheet!

I vaguely remember the Electric Prunes and this song, but I was a bit too young to become a big fan at that time. I'll have to explore them. The video did crack me up, as most do from that period. Even when the music is great, the clothes and hairstyles are 'a gas.'

Thanks Ellen! I only learned about Tucker and Mance through working on this article. I was startled by how big Tucker's catalogue is, and some of the big names on it.

The Prunes' catalogue is sort of a chaotic mess--lots of musicians coming and going, even Lowe periodically dropping out and coming back, and, after the first two albums, a lot of different songwriters and styles. I haven't listened to most of it, but they got a reputation as "experimental" to an extreme!

The band turnover is not surprising. The more I delve into it, the more I find that being a rock musician had little financial payoff for most artists. If you were in a band like the Prunes, unlikely you would see much if any money. You'd do it for the opportunity to make some cool music with other musicians. So being experimental would make perfect sense.

His side gig as a producer probably paid better!

This is absolutely one of my favorite songs and I had no idea about the writers behind the song. Great piece!

Oh the time travel music can make you go on. My best mate I knew back in the seventies to nineties was an Electric Prunes fan. I knew the music but he would be a fan of the band. He could bore any passing listener with the same enthusiasm I have for my favourites. Sadly long gone but the music and the evenings of just chilling to music on the turntable. Yes kids that used to be a thing is a memory well loved.

Thanks for the memory and a reminder that time machines do exist. You can never have enough to dream.

Wow! Great song and an even better bonus: it chased my unwelcome earworm away.
