For a few years there in the late aughts to about the pandemic, Joan Jett was a mainstay on the country fair circuit. I saw her twice, at the Marin County Fair and again, I think at Sonoma. Though it may have been Alameda or elsewhere. It was always a great, rockin’ show. I attended the screening of her recent documentary at part of the San Francisco Film Festival (I believe) and she and her manager, Kenny Laguna sat in the row in front of me! It wasn’t the best music doc in the world, fairly by the numbers, but it didn’t matter. The energy was great and I stared at the back of Joan’s blonde buzz-cutted head half the film. I always choose “I Love Rock and Roll” as my song when I’m at Karaoke as it’s hard to sing it too far out of key and it always gets the crowd going.
Jealous you saw her live. Closest I came was a gig she was supposed to do in Monterey, early 80's, but cancelled. I still got to see Elvin Bishop and Crystal Gayle so it wasn't a total loss, but that was the closest I got.
