Do Not Play This at my Funeral
Like, read the title! It should be played while I’m still breathing. You know, instead of last rites.
(This post is especially for
)If you missed my original post on Anna von Hausswolff, here it is.
Anna, playing doom on a pipe organ the size of a house, accompanied by guitars and drums? It doesn’t get more elemental than that. Or more metal. This particular organ consists of many tons of steel alloy…so she’s playing metal in the most literal sense of the word. And just for good measure, she even throws in a few screams. And so we come full circle.
Here, she is headlining the 2016 edition of Orgelkraft. Orgelkraft is an international festival of organ music held at irregular intervals in the Stavanger concert hall in Stavanger, Norway. This is an original composition, entitled “Deathbed”. It’s so Anna.
Set aside 12 minutes of your life. There are few better uses of the time. After all, we have no idea how long we’ll be around.
This is great. For many reasons. First, what a wonderful world we live in! I will sleep better knowing that the Orgelkraft Festival is a thing; people are so interesting and cool. And then, is that mycelia growing behind them on repeat, or am I crazy? I think it was a much deserved shout out to fungi, but then again art is in the eye of the beholder. And all of that before we even get to the music! I love that she plays a pipe organ and doesn’t sound Dracula-y. It is so epic and intense, totally digging Anna. Thanks for this follow up :)
I remember the original post about Anna. Very powerful. But if we can’t play her at your funeral, what can we play? I was thinking of a great MC Hammer song that would be just perfect...🤣
