Burning the House Down
If you love old-fashioned, high-energy rock and roll, you have to see this…
A lot of old rock fans have taken to whining that rock is dead. I’ve written about this phenomenon and posted several examples of bands the prove them wrong. Rock is alive and well. It’s just that it sort of got neglected in its country of origin, so it moved. The most exciting bands no longer come from Liverpool or California. They come from all over the world.
One other unexpected thing is that many of these bands are composed of and by women. Yes, there were some female rock stars in the early days of the classic rock era, but they faded away in the late 80’s and left the field to the dudes. Of course, the process was abetted by a music industry which actively blocked women from getting the contracts or recognition they deserved.
Well, things have changed. One example is The Warning, from Monterrey, Mexico. I’ve posted several articles on them, tracing their evolution from three little girls in their parents’ basement to a rock power trio the likes of which we haven’t seen in decades:

International Women’s Week (6) (ok, the week already ended but I'm extending it. Because.
If you like the artists I write about, please share this post or the blog with friends who might like them too. I do not monetize this in any way—my mission is only to get the word out about these amazing musicians. “The trio is a special configuration-it has enough voices to do big and complex things, yet still leav…

How Does a Thirteen Year Old Write Something Like This?
Tell me how it feels like Take off your disguise Show me the light Bring me down into your level Make me a rebel Hold me please, never leave I need a daily poisoning Your words so deep, cut into me Whispers so loud they’re deafening. — The Warning: “Show Me The Light”
My favorite band of them all, however, is Band-Maid. For me, they are the best all-around rock band since the Beatles. The Fab Four are still out ahead in terms of sheer volume of good songs. But Band-Maid are far better live musicians than the Beatles were, or for that matter, almost any other band of the classic era with the possible exception (in my opinion) of Cream. And they are constantly working on their craft, so the best may be yet to come.
A few months ago, I saw them live in concert. They validated every superlative that has been thrown at them. Here is the review I posted:
Some Say They Are Saving Rock ‘n Roll
I wasn’t planning to write a review of this concert, but now I feel compelled to. It’s not going to be a standard review where I just go through the setlist in order and make comments on each song. I’ll comment on a few, but I want to focus on something bigger: Affirmation.
Band-Maid have just released a new take on one of their older songs, the opener from their fourth album, “Just Bring It”. The bass vs. guitar duel in this would make any of the classic rock bands proud. The whole thing is a barn-burner.
